No-Dig Marketgarden - just outside of town
Sachsen-Anhalt
Mandatory! ... we have to have at least a videocall, before i would agree to host you and would be able to show you how my farm life is.
I created and still invest myself in a community project where we grow veggies for 4 years now in a No-Dig Market Garden.
... means no heavy tools, to enhance the life in the soil, but at the same time using smart gadgets, that make life on the field more easy.
... now its time to start my own project, as the former is getting too small and it also limits the growth of the idea of super locally produced veggies by the overarching structure of the old project.
The new project is on a 5000 qm field and does have 5 greenhouses (length 30m, width 6m.
It's plenty of space to realize super locally produced veggies and to apply the same techiques, which i´ve picked up over the years.
... so, there is a lot of basic groundwork to be done! ;-)
- building infrastructure (like irrigation, creating the beds, fixing the greenhouses etc.)
- sowing, transplanting, weeding, watering, harvesting, protecting, washing etc.
- my understanding of no-dig marketgardening
- but in generell exchanging ideas as well, maybe?
- we work outside of town, in a small village, but stay insde the town, in my house.
- you wil have a room, that might be shared with a second volunteer, if there are any around.
- it´s nice, clean and warm. :-)
-UPDATE: Accommondation is in the guesthouse on the farm - still clean :-)
- i hope that we have sometimes the option to have meals togehter and share the duties around that, including cooking and cleaning (ingredients provided by me all the time)
- IMPORTANT NOTE ... food is going to be vegan or vegetarian
- the structure of the day depends a bit on the season, weather und tasks that are imminent.
- wintertimes are slower and more on the fixing and constructing side and working times are more likely during daylight.
- summertime is more planting, harvesting, watering and the stuff that goes along with that, while we try to prevent to work in the summerheat, means getting up early and do some work - noon is siesta time - late afternoon is working time again.
- i try to make everything as efficient as possible, means there are tools that help us to achieve more, while doing less. Same applies to the techniques involved, like "No-Dig".
- i love farming! :-) ... beside that i perform magic tricks, love cooking, hiking and traveling the world - have been in quite a few countries so far and hope to see some more.
- there is quite an easy hike 1h drive away, which is really nice, actually gorgeous. .. if we find time, i am in! :-)
- we have a lot of lakes around, but my area is one of the most uninteressting regarding natural beauty :-))) ... anyways, the town is quite nice and has nice spots, as well as a nice cultural night life.

It was my first Wwoofing experience and it was great! Rene was a very kind host and helped me learn a lot. He was explaining everything in detail while giving me space and guidance to find out on my own. He truly loves what he is doing and knows a lot about sustainability and circularity in agriculture. I am truly greatful that I was involved in the making of his project with the method of Market Gardening, which was so interesting to learn and is possibly one of the most sustainable methods of agriculture.

I had a great time with lots to learn and lots to do. Honest and productive wwoofing. I had an eventful stay. It was a very welcoming first chapter to being in Germany. 👍👍
