Hallo liebe WWOOFER,
willkommen auf der WWOOF-Seite der Evergreen Farm!
Wir bauen Gemüse, Obst und Kräuter auf nun ca. 0,7 Hektar für die Mitglieder unserer Gemeinschaftsgetragenen Landwirtschaft an (auch Solidarische Landwirtschaft, englisch CSA). Dabei orientieren wir uns an den Prinzipien der Permakultur und den Methoden des Marketgardening.
Wir wollen unser Gemüse in einem möglichst intakten Ökosystem anbauen. So finden sich auch Obstbäume und -sträucher zwischen den Terrassen unseres Südhangs und wir verzichten auf Pestizide oder chemisch-synthetische Dünger. Wir halten keine Tiere, aber es lebt eine Dachs-Familie am anliegenden Bach. Reichlich Vögel, Würmer und Insekten tummeln sich auf der Farm.
Als Gemeinschaftsgetragene Landwirtschaft kommen wir regelmäßig mit unseren Mitgliedern zusammen, feiern Feste und gestalten gemeinsame Aktionstage zum Mithelfen.
AUFGABEN:
Abhängig von der Saison, wirst du unterschiedliche Aufgaben machen:
1) Frühling: Jungpflanzenanzucht, Aussaaten, Topfen, Kompost verteilen, Beete vorbereiten, Jäten, Pflanzen
2) Sommer: Auspflanzen, Jäten, Beetpflege, Ernten, Kompost sieben
3) Herbst: Ernten, Bauen, Reparieren, Kompost machen, Obstbaum-Schnitt, Knoblauch stecken, Stecklinge machen, Holz hacken
Dieses Jahr starten wir in die sechste Saison mit aktuell 80 vergebenen Gemüseanteilen. Da wir alle Pflanzen selbst ziehen, sind wir von Februar-April vor allem mit der Anzucht und Aussaat beschäftigt. Außerdem bereiten wir die Beetflächen für den Anbau vor d.h. Jäten, Boden lockern, Kompost aufbauen. Ansonsten kann man bei uns reichlich Holz hacken und auch einkaufen bzw. kochen ist uns eine große Hilfe. Wir essen meistens gemeinsam und vegan. Wir arbeiten Dienstags bis Samstags.
LAGE:
Die Farm befindet sich auf einer alten Obstbaumplantage in der hügeligen Landschaft des Essener Südens. Die nächsten Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind in ca. 20 min zu Fuß zu erreichen. Mit dem regelmäßig fahrenden Bus sind es ca. 10 min bis Essen Werden direkt an der Ruhr. Hier findest du Cafés und Bars. Die Brem-Insel und der Baldeneysee laden zur Entspannung ein. Die Stadt Essen bietet zudem ein reichhaltiges Angebot an kulturellen Veranstaltungen, eine Kunst- und Musikszene.
DAS TEAM:
Derzeit besteht unser Team aus 2 Personen: Rebekka und Jonny haben die Evergreen Farm 2021 gegründet. Immer Mal wieder kommen Mitglieder aus der Stadt und Nachbarschaft zum Helfen vorbei.
UNTERKUNFT:
Wir haben eine kleine Holzhütte gemütlich ausgebaut, sodass euch hier ein Bett, ein Schrank und ein Heizlüfter zur Verfügung stehen. Außerdem haben wir einen Zeltplatz unter den Bäumen am Südhang. Für richtige Outdoor-Fans haben wir Hängemattenplätze 😉

Wir freuen uns über sozial eingestellte Menschen, die Freude an körperlicher Arbeit haben und sich für eine Alternative zur konventionellen Landwirtschaft einsetzen möchten. Wir lernen miteinander.

Hello WWOOFERS,
Welcome to our WWOOF page!
At Evergreen Farm we grow vegetables, fruit, and herbs on now approx. 0,7 hectares for the members of our community-supported agriculture (CSA). We are guided by the principles of permaculture and the methods of market gardening.
We want to grow our vegetables in an ecosystem that is as intact as possible, so there are fruit trees and bushes between the terraces on our southern slope and we do not use pesticides or chemical-synthetic fertilizers. We don’t keep any animals, but we are hosting a badger family by the creek in the valley. Plenty of birds, worms, and insects live with us.
As a community-based farm, we meet with our members regularly, celebrate festivals, and organize days open for people who want to help and learn.

TASKS:
This year we‘re starting the fourth season with about 50 members. Since we grow all the plants ourselves, in spring we are mainly occupied with growing and sowing. We cultivate young plants in the plant nursery and prepare the beds for cultivation (i.e. weeding, watering, loosening the soil, building up and applying compost, and filling the paths with wood chips…). We make our own compost and mix our own soil-mix for pressing soilblocks. We build our own infrastructure, and try to do ot better every year. Otherwise, you can chop plenty of wood here, collect wild herbs and flowers for the market-day, shopping and cooking are a big help for us, too. We usually take our vegan meals together. We work from Tuesday to Saturday.
LOCATION:
The farm is located on an old fruit tree plantation in the hilly landscape of southern Essen. The nearest shops can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot. With the regular bus, it is about 10 minutes to Essen Werden, directly by the river Ruhr. Here you will find cafes and bars. The Brem Island and the Baldeneysee invite you to relax. The city of Essen also offers a wide range of cultural events, and an art and music scene.
We have two bikes that you can use.
THE TEAM:
Our team currently consists of two people: Rebekka and Jonny founded Evergreen Farm in 2021. People from the city and neighborhood come by to help.
ACCOMMODATION:
We have made a small wooden hut cozy, so
that you have a bed, a cupboard, and a heater at your disposal. We also have a campsite under the trees on the south slope of the farm. You can take a warm shower in the small house on the farm. For real outdoor fans, we have an outdoor shower and plenty of hammock places 😉

You need to understand where you are going. If you are willing to work a full time job for food and a bed, this is exactly your place.
Nevertheless, that was not my case. I was willing to lend a hand but not to work a full time job without being paid. I am sorry that we had different expectations.
Apart from that. Everything was great, the place is very nice.

Schade, dass unsere Vorstellungen nicht zusammengepasst haben. Für uns ist WWOOF eine Lernreise: man packt mit an, erlebt den Alltag auf dem Hof und nimmt viel Wissen und Erfahrung mit – ein Stück Abenteuer, aber eben kein klassischer Urlaub.
Bei uns ist etwa ein halber Tag Mithilfe vorgesehen, angepasst an Energielevel und Möglichkeiten. Wer mehr Energie hat, darf sich natürlich auch länger einbringen – wir freuen uns über jede helfende Hand.
Uns sind Selbstständigkeit und offene Kommunikation wichtig. Mit motivierten Wwoofern erleben wir fast immer sehr schöne und bereichernde Begegnungen – und genau darauf freuen wir uns auch weiterhin 🌱.

Great experience! We really enjoyed our stay and we learned a lot. We planted, havested, prepared the earth, build fences and helped out at the market. A complete experience and a great inside look in the lives of this hardworking, kind and idealistic couple!

our time on the evergreen farm was very nice! Rebbeka and Jonny are lovely people that are very welcoming and kind. we did something new on the farm everyday so it was always exciting and interesting. The work was hard at times but always very fun! 😊🌸

Es war wunderschön auf der evergreen Farm! Rebekka und Johnny haben mich total offen aufgenommen. Rebekkas Wissen über Kräuter hat mich sehr fasziniert. Ich habe vor allem bei der Ernte und dem Einpflanzen helfen dürfen. Das vegane Essen und meine Unterbringung waren auch großartig. Dies war auch mein erstes wwofing-Erlebnis und ich hätte es mir nicht besser vorstellen können :)
eng: It was beautiful at the evergreen farm! Rebekka and Johnny were super open and welcoming. Rebekka's knowledge about herbs fascinated me so much. I mainly helped with harvesting and planting. The vegan food and my accommodation were also great. This was my first wwoofing experience and I not have imagined it better :)

Meine Zeit auf der Evergreen Farm war wirklich schön. Ich durfte fünf Wochen auf der Farm bleiben und habe sehr viel gelernt über Gemüseanbau und viele andere Sachen. Jonny und Rebekka haben sich immer gut um mich gekümmert. Mit Jonny habe ich Stunden lang geredet über Tomaten und Kapitalismus und mit Rebekka habe ich es immer toll gefunden um zusammen zu kochen. Die Begeisterung für Gemüse und das Leben auf der Farm habe ich von dieser beiden übergenommen und dafür werde ich ihnen immer dankbar sein. Ich werde auf jeden Fall wiederkommen!

Jonny and Rebecca were very nice and they have a beautiful farm in Essen.
You'll learn a lot about permaculture, propagating and growing plants. I was able to help out in bigger projects to improve the farm which was really cool. The work is hard but you get lots of free time as well.
I also got to meet lots of nice people from the community.
I would recommend coming here!
