As an older WWOOFer on my 2nd farm I wasn't sure if I'd fit into the team at BAUERei Potsdam in Grube. Happily, from the very 1st to the last day, a month later, I felt welcome by Lene and Mathias and the team of “Hofies” (“farmies”), including local residents and helpers among their SoLaWi (CSA) who know how to appreciate the amazing, gorgeous, delicious produce grown by Mathias and his field team. I helped to harvest potatoes, onions, beets, celery, Swiss chard, fennel, radishes, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, squash, cabbages, beans and fresh herbs. And I helped to weed the fields by hand and with a hoe. There was not a day without a beautiful surprise: an interesting conversation; a shaking of the just ripe plum trees; a bicycle ride at sunrise; a shared meal; a visit with the two donkeys, ducks and chickens; a lively exchange with neighbors, especially during the Thursday “Hof-Café” (farm coffee hour), when members of the CSA linger after picking up their shares, drinking coffee and eating Kuchen; sharing recipes; playing a board game appropriately named “Bohnanza” (“bean-anza”) ; or just doing nothing in the afternoon; sitting near the lake with a book; or taking a bus for some weekend tourism or a swim in nearby Babelsberg, the Hollywood of the 1920s. My time as a WWOOFer in the summer of 2025 was unforgettable, and I am forever grateful to Mathias and Lene for accepting me among them for a month of happiness and hope for the future Mathias and Lene are building.

I am very happy to have had this wwoofing experience at Mathias and Lene's farm! This month was very enriching. I was able to learn lots of interesting things about how the farm works and improve my German in a warm and welcoming environment, surrounded by friendly people. I warmly thank all the members of the farm, and especially Mathias and Lene, and I will keep excellent memories of this trip.

I really had a great experience wwoofing in the farm this summer with Mathias, Lene and all the team. Being in the field everyday: harvests, taking care of the ground and the veggies, planting seeds.. I learned a lot and really enjoyed living with their community. The farm is located in the peaceful area of Grube village with a direct access to the water to enjoy a refreshing swim or a kayak excursion on the lake. Mathias and Lene are generous and hard-worker people, doing everything with their heart. Really inspiring and interesting. They welcomed me in the best way and we are still in contact today!

Volunteering on the farm was a wonderful experience! Mathias, Lene, and the other friendly people on the farm made us feel welcome, and we enjoyed spending time together. The farm was beautiful, with a nearby swimming spot and bikes to borrow. We did gardening on the field and took care of the animals, 7 AM to around 2-3 PM, Monday to Friday, with weekends off. The lunches were delicious, and we had fun visiting Potsdam during our free time. Thanks for having us!! /Agnes and Emma

This was the first time I had ever woofed on a farm and it was kind of a bold move for me to try it in Europe. It was part of a trip I had planned to Europe, spending most of my time in Germany experiencing the culture and hopefully learning to speak better German. I would‘ve liked to do a few more weeks at the farm, but my main goal was to pack in as much as much as I could with seeing different parts of Germany, so I really appreciated Lene and Mathias letting me do this for a week. They are the “real deal” as we say in English; two generous, hard-working, caring people who help bring the community together by providing an alternative to buying produce from corporate grocery stores. I truly admire what they do and the values they stand for. It gave me some inspiration to take what I learned from being on their farm and apply it to my own life.
