Smallholding, Hobby Farm, Mixed Farm
Nordrhein-Westfalen
*We are a German/British family, in the mid-stages of setting up an organic smallholding on 3ha. We will be using permaculture designs in our plans and have lots of books on this if you're interested. Jobs vary with the weather and time of year, being organic means there is always lots of weeding to do ;) We have recently renovated our house, built a mobile chicken house, planted an orchard and several hedgerows and started a forest garden site. We normally work together a couple hours in the mornings and then a couple hours in the afternoon. Normally we speak English in the house but are happy to also speak German during your visit. We don't have a TV and there is no smoking in the house.
*As we are currently creating our farm, everyday tends to be different and plans change and develop all the time. Work may include: weeding, fencing, renovating, gardening, wood processing, building (animal housing/ compost toilet/clay oven etc), planting...
Unser Hof liegt in Alleinlage zwischen Hameln, Rinteln und Lemgo inmitten von idyllischer Natur. Die Region ist perfekt zum Wandern und Rad fahren, Fahrräder könnt ihr von uns ausleihen.
*We are situated in between Hameln, Rinteln and Lemgo in a beautiful quiet part of the countryside. The area is perfect for walking and cycling and you can borrow our bikes no worries.

The simple life farm is a wonderful place! Their family works hard for everything they have built. They are kind, patient, and loving.
Thank you for the opportunity to work besides you all!!
Sincerely,

It was a pleasure to spend a week with the family trio! During my stay I built a lot of muscle mass while relaxing deeply with the soothing sounds of birds, chickens and cockerels. Two lambs had just been born and were lovely to observe :)
From clearing out the stables, carrying material from A to B, compost updates, planting and sowing work the tasks were quite diverse. There are a lot of possibilities to learn at the Simple Life farm! Together with Fiz and Anne and the help of Taio and another kind Woofer we got a lot of things done in no time. And the food to fill up our energy tanks was marvellous. When I had an energy drop and didn't feel too well I felt cared for and it was no problem at all to stay in bed and relax for the time being.
Apart from the WWOOFing I spend a lot of time in the living room watching the fire, reading books (they kindly put the bookshelf with some great literature at our disposal) and playing loads of games with Taio, who is a lovely little soul. Our trip to the nearby Hofläden gave a great insight into the regional food production and kind-hearted people of the area. Being able to discover the surroundings by foot and by bike made me appreciate the landscape even more.
I am hoping to find the time to come back soon to see how everything changes with the seasons.

Dimi

This was our first family WWOOF experience and we had a great time. Anne and Fiz made us feel right at home and Taio was a delight. They were clear about timings of work/free time, the setup in their home and thr standards they expected, whilst being very easy going. Anne's cooking was delicious and they were happy for us to chip in with the cooking. Being away as a family can be hard and they were accepting and patient with us. Plus Taio is a very easy going and fun child. We did a range of jobs, they matched us with appropriate tasks and we appreciated having a bit of choice. Anne and Fiz took care to give us time to relax, gave great recommendations for our time off and even took us to the local farm shop.
We loved simple life farm! We found the forest garden beautiful and inspiring, the baby geese cute, the garden pleasant and fruit everywhere. A great example of permaculture in practice. We experienced low impact hay making and their bio-diverse meadow. Anne, Fiz and Tay, thanks for having us and we hope to see you in Scotland one day!

I spent nearly two weeks at Simple Life Farm and I can highly recommend wwoofing there - the animal houses have just been cleaned, so a visit sooner rather than later might be a good idea;) Apart from the animal houses I got to know many different corners of the farm through the variety of jobs - moving the sheep, weeding, clearing land from brambles, removing a weed fleece from underneath a hedge, chopping wood... All the time Anne and Fiz were eager to explain everything and provide us with an insight into all the smaller and bigger projects they've got running on their farm, including many recommendations for interesting books on the topics.
In the free time, their son Taio usually took over, made sure that nobody would get bored and even shared the Easter eggs he found with everyone else:) During my stay we also had an outside fire, a movie night and I enjoyed running and cycling in the beautiful area surrounding the farm a lot.
Thank you very much and I hope to come back soon!!

I had the chance to stay with Fiz, Anne and Taio for 5 days over Easter. I had a great time at their farm and as a first time WWOOFer I couldn‘t have asked for a better experience. During my stay me and 2 other WWOOFers were integrated in the family‘s everyday life (movie night, card games, playing with Taio) while we also learned a lot about permaculture - chickens seem to be a ‚must-have‘ acording to Fiz. ;)
Furthermore, Anne and Fiz had a lot of storys to tell about WOOFing in general since they have heaps of experience as hosts and guests. I defnitley hope to be able to return for another visit - even if it‘s only to see how many brambles we weren‘t able to dig out and try my hand at wood chopping again.
