LAGE: Unser Hof liegt 30 km westlich von Kassel im Habichtswaldgebiet / Mittelgebirges in einem wunderschönen Tal. Vor dem Haus fließt ein Bach, hinter der Scheune liegen Gemüsegarten und Weide. Unsere Flächen sind verstreut im Tal und dabei ist von nass bis sehr trocken, von Streuobsthang bis Auenwiese und Hangwiese mit über fünfzig Pflanzenarten alles dabei. Unsere Umgebung ist vielseitig: Wald, Wiesen und Acker wechseln sich mit Trockenmagerrasen und Streuobsthängen ab. BESCHREIBUNG: Wir sind eine klassische Patchworkfamilie/Wohngemeinschaft mit vier große Kinder (über 20) u. einem auf dem Hof geborene Nachzüglerin (17 Jahre) und unsere supernetten Mitbewohner/Innen. Wir haben zeitweise viel und gerne Besuch. Als Nebenerwerbshof arbeiten wir nach der 4-Feld-Hausgemüsewirtschaft, versorgen uns selbst mit Gemüse, Früchten, Eiern und Fleisch, machen extensive Grünlandwirtschaft, alles ohne Chemie. Wir machen viel Handarbeiten, haben aber auch einen Trecker. Unser Wohnhaus von 1860 wird mit traditionellen Baustoffen in Eigenarbeit renoviert (Lehm, Schilfrohr, Holz). Wir sind gut in unser Dorf eingebunden und machen gerne Arbeitstausch, dabei mögen und respektieren wir die alten eigenwilligen Bauern in unserem Dorf! In manchen Jahren hatten wir über 20 WooferInnen. Einige sind gerne wiedergekommen, andere sind sehr viel länger geblieben als geplant (mehrere Monate). Daraus sind dann Freundschaften -auch über große Entfernungen- entstanden. Wir reisen nicht viel, aber auf diese Art und Weise kommt die Welt zu uns in Form von netten Menschen (Taiwan, Japan, Australien..., Europa oder von Übersee..) Vielen Dank für die Hilfe und Gesellschaft! Uns ist die Weitergabe von Wissen über Zusammenhänge wichtig, die weder in der Schule gelehrt noch in einem normalen bürgerlichen Leben erfahren werden kann. Und in Mai 2024 hatten wir tatsächlich auch eine "Woofer-Hochzeit" bei uns auf dem Hof. Das Paar hat sich bei uns vor Jahren auf dem Hof kennengelernt und hat zusammen mit ihren Kindern (ja wir sind schon Wooferoma und -Opa), Verwandten und Freunde bei uns und mit uns gefeiert!!! Aktuelles: Wir haben zwei feste Mitbewohner, die auch immer gerne mit dabei sind neben der Ausbildung und der Arbeit. Neben der ganz normalen Hof Arbeiten wollen wir dieses Jahr unsere Zisterne fertig stellen und endlich wieder die Hühner auf den Hof holen. Anbaumethoden Wir arbeiten nach der Vier-Felder-Wirtschaft beim Gemüse. Jede Form von chemischem Pflanzenschutz is ein absolutes Tabu für uns. Wir verwenden unseren eigenen Mist und Kompost. Unsere Wiesen werden extensiv bewirtschaftet. Unser Heu ist super und unsere Wiesen artenreich (je nach Lage). Außerdem gehören wir zu den kundigen SammlerInnen von Heil- und Speisepflanzen und von Pilzen in unserer wunderbaren vielseitigen Umgebung. Durch eine gute Pflanzenkenntnis sind wir in der Lage die Vegetation als Zeiger für unseren Anbau (sowohl im Garten als auch im Grünland) zu nutzen (Vegetationskunde wird von Florian auch an der Uni in Kassel gelehrt). Bei unseren Gehölzen (Obstbäume, Straßenbäume etc.) setzen wir unterschiedliche Schnitttechniken ein. Gerne folgen wir den Jahreszeiten, die das Tun und Schaffen möglich machen und versuchen achtsam und nachhaltig mit Land und Leuten umzugehen. Zertifikate: Wir sind dem ökologischen Anbau streng verpflichtet und umgehen aber den nervenaufreibenden Formular/Verwaltungsaufwand, der so eine Zertifizierung mit sich bringen würde. Das ganze Antragswesen der Landwirtschaft inkl. Tierkennzeichnung ist schon unglaublich anstrengend! Arbeiten: WWOOFer/innen können helfen bei der Bewirtschaftung der Wiesen, Weiden und Streuobsthängen, im Gemüsegarten, Holzernte, Versorgung der Tiere, Ernteverarbeitung, Vorratshaltung, Umbau-/Erhaltungsmaßnahmen. ______________________________________ ENGLISH: LOCATION: 30 km west of Kassel DESCRIPTION: We are a patchwork family and a housemate with four older kids (older than 20 years) and on younger one (17 years). Our youngest child was born in 2007 on our farm. We sometimes have lots of visitors and really enjoy it. In some years we had more than twenty woofers. Some of the woofers stayed for months with us, even came to stay with us again and we stayed friends with them. We do not travel a lot, but in this way the world comes to us (Taiwan, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, European and from abroad) thank you!!! It is important to us to pass on knowledge about contexts that can neither be taught in school nor experienced in normal bourgeois life. And in May 2024, we actually had a "woofer wedding" on our farm. The couple met years ago on our farm and celebrated with us together with their children (yes, we are already woofergrandparents), relatives and friends!! We work in a four-field System in our vegetable garden, supplying us with fruits, vegetables, eggs and also meat. For our animals we have extensive meadows and pastures. We do a lot of manuel labor, but we do have a tractor. We renovate our farmhouse and other buidlings with organic material like clay, wood an reed. We have a good relationship with other people from our village and do work exchange. We love and respect the old farming people in our village. We have two permanent roommates who are always happy to be there in addition to training and work. In addition to the normal farm work, we want to finish our cistern this year and finally bring the chickens back to the farm. SPRINGTIME soon and SUMMER will come : We had our first migration birds going to the north ann filling the sky with their wonderfull song at the end of January Organic methods/Farming We work according to the four-field economy for vegetables. Any form of chemical crop protection is an absolute taboo for us. We use our own manure and compost. Our meadows are extensively cultivated. Our hay is great and our meadows are species-rich (depending on the location). In addition, we are among the expert collectors of medicinal and edible plants and mushrooms in our wonderful, diverse environment. Through a good knowledge of plants, we are able to use the vegetation as an indicator for our cultivation (both in the garden and in grassland) (vegetation science is also taught by Florian at the University of Kassel). We use different pruning techniques for our woody plants (fruit trees, street trees, etc.). We like to follow the seasons that make doing and creating possible and try to deal with the country and its people in a mindful and sustainable way. Certificates: We are strictly committed to organic cultivation and avoid the nerve-wracking form/administrative effort that such a certification would entail. The whole application process of agriculture, including animal identification, is incredibly exhausting! Work: WWOOFers can help with the management of meadows, pastures and orchards, in the vegetable garden, timber harvesting, care of the animals, harvest processing, stockpiling, conversion/maintenance measures.

Es ist ein sehr schöner 4-wöchiger Aufenthalt, mit einer tollen Atmosphäre, gewesen. Die Gastgeber*innen waren sehr herzlich und offen und wir können den Hof defintiv weiterempfehlen.

I had an amazing time at the farm. This was my first time wwoofing, so to be welcomed with open arms by Florian, Kathrin, Micha and other wwoofers was wonderfull! The rhythm of the farm was peaceful: the early mornings with the horses, seeing the sunrise, feeding and cuddling the sheep, taking care of the garden, and harvesting in abundance. Making meals together, enjoying a film or board game in the evening, going on many walks in the surrounding areas at sunset. It was three weeks of totally submerging myself in the farmerslife and all it had to offer. I wish I could have stayed longer because this place is a warm, cozy home and I would love to go back someday. Thank you for everything <3

I had a truly valuable experience here. Something that money can’t buy. Walking with horses, enjoying a fresh organic salad, fried sage leaves, carefully selected meat, and the smell of dill while helping out in the garden… Although my stay was short, it was filled with beautiful moments thanks to Katrin. I was also grateful to stay with such a warm-hearted family. They were so natural and unpretentious, yet showed me what real abundance in life meant. I wish I could have stayed longer to spend more time with them and to learn more about their way of living. Vielen lieben Dank 🫶 I hope to come back again soon.

I habe zwei Wochen im Harder's Hof verbracht und es war eine wunderschöne Zeit. Sie haben mir das Gefühl gegeben, dass ich ein Teil von ihrer Familie war. Ich habe so viel von allen um Pflanzen, Pferde, Geschichte, Kochen und besonders die Sprache gelernt. Sie haben mich auch zu verschiedenen schönen Orten gebracht, um den Bereich zu erkunden. Ich hatte so viel Spaß und ich wünsche, dass ich für eine längere Zeit bleiben könnte. Vielen Dank an alle :)

My experience at the farm was amazing. Everyone was welcoming, kind, and hilarious. Since I visited closer to the winter time most of the work was harvesting what was left in the garden and preparing the soil for next years growth. Also, much cooking! Katrin was extremely lovely and always took my needs into consideration. I could've have asked for a better first time WWOOFing experience. Thank you everyone❤️

Review We had a lovely time at Kathrine’s and Florian’s farm in Ehringen. It was our first WWOOF experience and it met up to all expectations! The farm was so cute and pretty with a lot of sweet animals and the people were super nice, welcoming and made us feel really comfortable. We did various jobs like taking care of the horses, making fences, making mosaic, working in the garden, cooking with vegetables form the garden and going on walks to pick up the horses with the cute dog Pilou. The work hours were easy and we had a free day where Florian drove us to Kassel, which was really nice. The food was tasteful and plenty. We slept veryyyyywell, our bedroom was on the attic so it was a bit warm but the beds were veryyyyy comfortable. Overall an amazing experience, we had a great time and we would recommend everybody to go work here!!
