Our Gemüse-Oase is a small farm that follows the principles of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and cultivates around 50 different vegetables and herbs using the market gardening system. A small, open-minded, and young team of three full-time gardeners and one volunteer (participant in a voluntary ecological year) works here. Occasionally, CSA members also help out in the garden. Good teamwork and a respectful, collaborative atmosphere are very important to us. Everyone is encouraged to contribute ideas, and it's essential that everyone feels comfortable. The farm is located in Vippachedelhausen, a small village in the Weimar region. Although we are not certified organic, sustainable and soil-friendly cultivation is particularly important to us. We avoid large machinery to maintain the natural balance of the soil, as well as synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
In our Gemüse-Oase, we grow vegetables both outdoors and in greenhouses. Everything is lovingly done by hand. We use typical market garden tools such as the double digging fork (Grelinette) and the Tilther cultivator. Typical tasks include preparing the beds, sowing and planting, weed control, and tending the summer crops in the greenhouses. Our growing season begins in February and ends in December. From April onwards, harvesting takes center stage in our weekly routine. We deliver the freshly harvested vegetables once a week to various collection points, where our members pick up their shares. By joining us for all the work and participating in the tasks, you'll gain a deep and interesting insight into the market gardening system, manual vegetable cultivation, and the principles of community-supported agriculture.
Since there is no accommodation directly at the garden center, you will be staying in the apartment of your hosts, Elisabeth and Johannes, in Weimar. (They founded the farm three years ago and have built it up with a lot of passion.) There, you can have a room furnished with a bed, shelves, and a desk.
Our workday usually begins with a shared breakfast at the garden center. There, you'll find basic equipment for preparing hot drinks and heating up food you've brought with you, as well as a place for shared breaks and meals during the workday.
We love cooking with our own vegetables (usually in the evening) and eat mostly vegetarian food.
Weimar is a beautiful and charming city with a wide range of cultural offerings. Jena and Erfurt are also within easy reach and are well worth a visit.
In our free time, we enjoy being musically active, for example, in a choir or orchestra. We love nature and being active and enjoy spending time outdoors.
